Guidelines for accessible e-commerce.

On June 28, 2025, the new Accessibility Act came into force in Sweden - as part of the EU's Accessibility Directive, the European Accessibility Act (EAA). For many e-commerce companies, it raises questions:

  • Is it about us?

  • What does it mean in practice?

  • Where do we start?

  • How do we take the next step?

Digital accessibility - what does it mean?

The new law, "The Act on the Accessibility of Certain Products and Services" (2023:254), requires that digital services and products should be accessible to everyone - including people with disabilities. For e-commerce businesses, this means, for example, that the entire customer journey, from product information to payment flows and support, must work for all users.

Not all companies are directly covered - micro-enterprises with fewer than 10 employees and a turnover of less than 2 million euros are exempt. But for those who are covered, or want to stay ahead, it is high time to start.

At Cypoint, we help e-commerce companies understand what the law entails and how to approach the work step by step in a simple, concrete, and structured way. It is important to have a plan, understand where the challenges lie, and prioritize the work. With the right guidance and focus on what provides the most benefit, digital accessibility becomes both possible and meaningful.

Why accessibility is good for business.

Digital accessibility is not just about following the law - it's about care and including everyone. In Sweden, approximately 10-30% of the population have some form of disability, but accessibility makes a difference for all of us. During temporary challenges, such as an injury, stress, or when in environments with glare or poor connectivity. When we make the web accessible, it becomes more user-friendly and better for search engines - as they function similarly to blind users. Investing in accessibility provides:

  • Better SEO and higher conversion.

  • A stronger brand and increased loyalty.

  • More and satisfied users.

Do you want to understand where you stand and what the next step is?

Accessibility work starts with insight - and ends with inclusion. Creating an accessibility-adapted e-commerce is about more than just complying with legal requirements. It's about building a digital experience that works for everyone - regardless of ability, situation, or technology. To succeed, insight, willingness, and the right support are required. At Cypoint, we help you to get started gradually in a structured and concrete way by:

  • Assess how your e-commerce meets accessibility requirements.

  • Identify areas for improvement.

  • Choose the right path forward with smart prioritization.
